I finally remembered to leave the purfling on my end wedge long so I can mitre them. I always think about it right before I plug the laminate trimmer in and forget about it by the time turn it on to route the binding channels and ZIP I cut them right down. Not this time, though!
Cocobolo on Black Limba back and sides.

Nice work!! and I love the combo too. I think I will move Black Limba up
in my build list. I've had the same problem with remembering to stop at
the wedge.

Just remember that to get a super clean mitre it requires an ultra sharp chisel. I learned the hard way.

That looks fantastic J! Really nice clean work on those miters too...

I always have to remind myself to cut just the depth of the binding without purlfing at the end-graft too...

Great combo, by the way... That should really stand out under finish...

Thanks for the pic, J. I've been puzzling over what trim to use on my Black Limba set from the Zootman.
Your solution is quite attractive!
Oh yes, those miters look great. Up for contract work?

Great job on the mitres. I still have not done that as well. I hope to try on one of my next two. We will see. I hope they turn out as well as yours!

Great job on the graft and awesome choice in woods. I've had similar problems cutting binding ledges as well. On the last one I cut the ledges first then installed the end graft. Just make sure your sides touch where the graft would be, or you fill any opening with scraps from the sides, otherwise the router will dig into the top or back. After gluing, I laid two small pieces of purfling on either side of the graft as spacers and did a final touchup on the length of the graft with a file. Another benefit is that the purlings will be clean. You won't have to chisel off excess side material before you can make your miters and risk damaging the purflings in the process. Just my .02 on how I'll be doing them all in the future.
